What's what of digital entertainment.

What stood out to me the most this reading was the importance of understanding the difference between apps, ebooks, and enhanced ebooks and how those differences relate to their target audiences.

I wasn't surprised to read that apps suffer from a lower price assumption due to the fact that so many people are used to downloading dozens of apps for free.  While ebooks and enhanced ebooks offer a lot of additional features, I think it's important to understand that consumers will assume the price will be lower than traditional printed media because it's a digital product.

These lower prices are where digital media can really introduce the "wow" factor for today's consumers.  Producing a truly fun and entertaining enhanced ebook for an affordable price is something every publisher should be striving for.

The reading for this week was rather short, but it leaves a lot of room for interpretation.  As mentioned in another post, finding the right kind of interactivity for each audience will be key to the projects success.  Writing and animating Alice in Wonderland for children would be much more different than creating a version for adults.  That's the real challenge in my opinion.  Creating smart, useful and fun interactions in a book meant for older readers that won't create a children's book personality will be challenging.
