Continued reading of basic info and a little bit into past/present/future mainly led me to thinking about the future of digital storytelling. My job with Student Media at the U has me often considering the best ways to convey stories to readers. Visual elements are usually the way to pull readers into reading stories, however, there is more that can be done to get people to read content. E-books are enabling extremely engaging and interactive material that even news corporations could take advantage of. In Greg Wiegand's blog entry, What You Really Need to Know About Enhanced and Multi-Touch E-books, he delves into the impacts of these devices in a all aspects of media. He talks about their influence on the publishing business, saying "what publishers must do is continue to work with technology creators and eBook retailers and push for standardization and feature support." His premise is to give incite on much of the information people may not already know about this avenue of media. I think it is very informative and gives reason to own devises that allow for interactive storytelling.
Certain creative minds are changing the way people are enabled to learn. Although people may say allowing children to play on iPads at a young age is harmful to growth, many would keenly argue that the way technology can be used has limitless possibilities, as long as it is not the only way children learn. Interactive e-textbooks are the future, there is a lot of potential to educate using technology. However, is it inhibiting those who are not able to have that privilege? I look at it and can see that the more affluent school districts in our country would allow for their kids to experience the benefits of enhanced e-reading, but it would be important to allow all young people to have a chance to get the same treatment.
What I noticed from glancing at the other blog posts this week was that an important factor in this week's readings was how targeting audiences and discerning a method in which to reach that audience is crucial in developing substantial and fulfilling apps or e-books. It is necessary for the creator to keep in mind that the user is hoping to receive something out of their experience. Whatever the final product, to succeed it must act as a worthy tool or avenue for entertainment, not just something that has little to offer.
