Tools for 3D Images

Autodesk 123D Catch is a free app that allows you to create a 3D scan of any object.  You simply take several pictures of the object with your phone and the app renders the 3D scan.  Which you then can edit, manipulate, touch, turn spin.  The app connects to a desktop application that allows you to send the image for 3D printing or to export into a 3D file and other formats to be able to upload image into other platforms such as indesign. Designers are taking this tool and using it to create videos and other 3D imaging products. This app is great for non animators that would like to use interactive images, and don't have the capabilities to render them.  This app is perfect for use in uploading interactive 3D images to indesign for interactive ebooks. The 3D image interactive capabilities is set to what is scanned, the image is not animated but could be through additional manipulation through other software. As is the app creates great 3D images that can be turned and viewed. This would be a great tool for designers that would like to create ebooks similar to the periodic table of elements that is on our ipad. Where you can touch and move objects to fully see the object from every angle. This is an innovative tool that has a great future of applications for the interactive ebook.

Here is an article from creative blog discussing 123D Catch and what some designers have done with it. http://www.creativebloq.com/iphone/photos-3d-models-iphone-912732

Here is a link to the app website that introduces the product and has links for download. http://www.123dapp.com/catch

This is my favorite video introducing the app and what it can do and it's userability.
